A pool deck is the one surface around the house where algae is a safety problem, not just a cosmetic one. We clean travertine, pavers, stamped concrete and natural stone so the grip comes back along with the color.
Constant splashing, shade from umbrellas and screens, and warm humid air make a pool surround the perfect place for algae. It forms a thin film that is almost invisible when dry and slick when wet. Textured and porous surfaces such as travertine and tumbled pavers hold onto it the most.
Travertine and limestone are soft and react badly to acidic cleaners, so they are cleaned at low pressure with a stone-safe solution. Concrete pavers tolerate more pressure, but the joint sand does not, so the angle and distance matter. Stamped and sealed concrete is tested first, because an ageing sealer can lift.
We work away from the water, control where the rinse goes and keep cleaning solution out of the pool. Coping and waterline tile edges are detailed by hand. It is still worth running the filter and checking your chemistry afterwards, as you would after a storm.

We work away from the water and control the runoff so solution stays out of the pool. A small amount of rinse water is no different from rain, but we still recommend checking your chemistry afterwards.

Some loss from the top of the joints is normal. We keep the pressure and angle low to limit it, and joints can be re-sanded once the patio is dry.
